The plan starts from the spec sheet of the machines you own or plan to buy. Top-load lids need room to open, front-load pairs can take a counter over them, and stacked units need a tall, narrow opening. The dryer vent and the water valves stay reachable, because the U.S. Fire Administration recommends a dryer vent that is not crushed or restricted. The folding counter can be granite, chosen with the rest of your stone.
